Fallen service members to be honored

Memorial Day is Monday, May 28. Memorial Day, or “Decoration Day” as it was originally designated, is a federal holiday that was established in 1868 after the American Civil War as a time to honor fallen members of the armed services. It is observed every year on the last Monday in May. There are several Memorial Day events in Douglas County and in Denver for the public to participate in this year:
Saturday, May 26 – Colorado Veterans Project 5K, 10K, and 30K Run and March to feed homeless veterans at Douglas County Fairgrounds Event Center in Castle Rock. Visit www.memorialdaymarch.com for information/registration.
Monday, May 28 – American Legion Post 1187 ceremony starting at 10 a.m., Cedar Hill Cemetery, 880 E. Wolfensberger Road in Castle Rock.
Monday, May 28 – American Legion Post 1187 ceremony starting at 11 a.m. at St. Philip in the Field, 397 S. Perry Park Road in Sedalia.
Monday, May 28 – Ceremony starting at 10 a.m. at JS Parker Cemetery, 10375 S. Parker Road in Parker.
Monday, May 28 – Fort Logan National Cemetery ceremony starting at 11 a.m., 4400 W. Kenyon Avenue in Denver.
