Kids summer fire

Information and photo provided by South Metro Fire Rescue

The South Metro Safety Foundation Kids Fire Academy is a summer day camp experience where kids get a peek into a day-in-the-life of a firefighter and learn basic fire and life safety skills such as home fire safety, first aid and bike safety.

South Metro Fire Rescue (SMFR) is excited to offer six kids mini academies this summer for kids between the ages of 8-11.  New this year, South Metro will also be offering two academies for teens between the ages of 12-14.  These summer camps will allow local kids and teens to learn more about SMFR.

Castle Pines has two of SMFR’s 20 stations that respond to more than just fire emergencies.  Kids and teens will learn more about their neighborhood fire department, safety in and around their homes, and will be able to practice some of the skills that a firefighter will need for their job.

Each academy runs Monday through Thursday from 9:00 am to noon; the cost of the academy is $60.  Registration for all sessions of the Kids Academy will begin on Tuesday, May 1 at 10 a.m.   Slots fill up quickly, so register early.
