May is National Historic Preservation Month. To celebrate this annual recognition, the Castle Rock Historical Society and Museum is inviting the public to hop aboard the Town of Castle Rock’s Town Trolley and enjoy free tours of Castle Rock’s rhyolite buildings and homes. Rhyolite is a stone that was quarried locally and used in the 1800s and 1900s for the construction of many homes and businesses in Douglas County.

Castle Rock has 25 historic landmarks that have been approved by the Town’s Historic Board and Town Council by ordinance, as well as five properties that are designated as National Historic Landmarks on the National Register of Historic Properties. The Castle Rock Museum offers monthly walking tours through the Castle Rock Historical Society, as well as walking tour brochures for downtown Castle Rock and the Craig/Gould neighborhood.

Trolley tours will be held on Saturday, May 5, at the Castle Rock Museum, located at 420 Elbert Street in Castle Rock. Tour times are 9:30 a.m., 10:30 a.m., 11:30 a.m., 1:00 p.m., and 2:00 p.m. and will run approximately 45 minutes. Seating is limited and reservations are recommended. To reserve your Town Trolley tour spot, call 303-814-3164 or email museum@castlerockhistoricalsociety.org.
