Hope and help never end at Buffalo Ridge Elementary
The staff at BRE embraces the power of giving during the holidays.

One of the things that makes Buffalo Ridge Elementary School (BRE) so special is the caring and compassion embodied throughout the school. Each year at this time for the past thirteen years, classrooms and hallways have bustled with staff and students preparing to share with others. This year, the giving extends to families, children, and community members who are struggling with adversity.
More than 15 classrooms and several departments teamed together to support entire families or individuals. This year, the school partnered with Panther Pantry to identify families in need of adopting, as well as the Castle Rock Municipal Court to offer toys to children through its Santa’s Second Chance program.
Kristin Duran, BRE’s volunteer coordinator, manages the holiday giving campaign each year. “For us, it’s that magical time of year when the spirit of giving and helping warms our hearts and reminds us of so many that are struggling,” she notes.
The local community has experienced its own share of life-changing events this year and BRE is taking care of several from within the area, as well. Duran notes that parents, staff and students at BRE are the real angels that do it all. “Their inspiration to teach students about giving to those less fortunate is beyond just a big, kind heart,” she adds.
As the students wrapped gifts for others, feelings of hope and humanity filtered through the halls and brought a quiet peace about the building. As staff and families make the special deliveries with items, feelings only grow stronger. “There is nothing like seeing the complete look of gratitude from families when they open the door to us bringing gifts. The problems of the world melt away and you embrace the power of the moment,” shared BRE staff member, Wistar Hart.
