Valor hockey team wins national championship

Valor Christian High School won the USA Hockey National Championship, High School Division 1 on March 24 in Philadelphia. The game was won in sudden-death overtime with the Screaming Eagles winning 3-2.

Valor Christian High School celebrated another big win this year: a hockey national championship on March 24. After a tough loss to Regis Jesuit High School in the 5A state championship game in Colorado, the Valor Screaming Eagles competed in the USA Hockey National Championship, High School Division 1, in Philadelphia.

Six seniors on the team hail from Castle Pines: Brock Benson, Cooper Robinson, Camden Gunnersen, Cole Campbell, Cole Talus and MJ Ladwig.

The Screaming Eagles played six games to achieve the victory, with overall stats of 5-1-0. The final game against Brookings High School (South Dakota) was decided in sudden-death overtime with Valor winning 3-2.

“The story of how we won the high school national championship will be remembered for how this team accomplished this amazing feat: the struggle they faced early on and then continuously learning and improving over their remaining five games,” stated Coach George Gwozdecky. “It will be a great example for future teams about perseverance and belief in each other and the team.”
