Surviving and thriving

Rachel Goodman, her husband Raymi, and children Ethan and Zoe are thrilled to be living in the Knightsbridge subdivision. This family photo was taken in the Oak Hills neighborhood by local photographer/resident, Annie Mohler.

Rachel Goodman and her family moved to the Knightsbridge subdivision in 2022. She is a mom, wife, friend, cancer survivor, volunteer, coach, book club member and financial planner. Energy and passion propel the life she leads with purpose and kindness.

Rachel and husband, Raymi, who is in real estate in Elizabeth, both grew up on different Hawaiian islands but serendipitously met in a lift line in Aspen. They eventually married and lived in Aspen for a time, where they welcomed a son, Ethan, and a daughter, Zoe. But, the ocean beckoned; they sold their belongings and headed to the south shore of Kauai.

Rachel is outdoorsy: She skis, surfs, mountain bikes, has climbed many fourteeners, and completed a program called Three Peaks in Three Weeks in Africa.

At age 42, Rachel was stopped in her tracks when she was diagnosed with breast cancer. Her kids were just 5 and 7 at the time. “If something doesn’t feel right, stay on it,” she encouraged, noting that it was only because of her advocacy that the cancer was found.

Rachel credits Young Survivors Coalition for helping her through her cancer journey, with laughter, tears and incredible friendships. She volunteers with the group today and has stayed connected to several friends.

After completing treatment in March 2020, with the world shutting down, it came time for the family of four to return to the mainland to be closer to family and more progressive healthcare. They rented for a year and decided Castle Pines, with its small-town feel, beautiful topography and trails, was the perfect place to call home.

After building herself back from treatment, Rachel is determined to do good each day and is incredibly involved. She volunteers at Rock Canyon High School (RCHS), Rocky Heights Middle School (RHMS), 100 Women Who Care and Bin Blessed. She is also a part of the daytime Castle Pines Book Club at DCL – Castle Pines.

Watching her children take on team sports is nostalgic for Rachel. “Team sports were a big part of my identity. They teach all the great lessons in life,” Rachel shared. Ethan is a freshman at RCHS, playing on the venerable basketball team. Zoe is a seventh grader at RHMS; Rachel coaches her daughter’s Sparks club volleyball team.

With sports performance expectations high, Rachel said it is important to also care for the mental side. So, she is sponsoring a leadership and mental toughness training program with Pro Athlete Advantage and hoping to bring the program to both Sparks and RCHS.

As a financial planner and wealth management advisor for Edward Jones, Rachel loves having the opportunity to fold more women into the planning process. “My goal is to bring women into the conversation and take the shame out of not knowing how the investing world works,” she offered. Rachel is celebrating her grand opening at Edward Jones on March 4 at 3 p.m. at her new space in the community at 7505 Village Square Drive.

Rachel is enthusiastic about being in a community where she knows people she sees out and about, is on a first name basis with the mayor, and has the opportunity, as both a homeowner and as a business owner, to be part of the future.
