Fire safety 101

Timber Trail Elementary (TTE) first grade students received a visit from community resident and firefighter Dave Petau. Petau donned his gear so the students would know how to recognize a firefighter in the event of an emergency. He talked about
fire safety and the importance of having an emergency plan at home that includes a safe meeting place outside the home in the event of a fire.

Petau’s visit complemented a class project, the fire safety unit. At the end of the unit, students created their own map showing an alternate route to exit TTE if normal evacuation became unsafe or blocked.
