The Castle Pines North (CPN) Storm Swim Team just finished up its second season as part of the Mountain High Swim League D Division. A young team with only a handful of teenagers, the kids performed well with the eight and under boys winning their division.

One hundred-twenty-five swimmers strong, the team was capped this year due to pool space. Head Coach Erik Goodrich did a great job, along with Assistant Coach Annalisa Vecchi from Safesplash and the team’s three junior coaches Gabe, Kate, and Kellie. More than 250 pizza coupons were handed out to kids who improved their times, courtesy of Little Italy restaurant.

Swimming out of the HOA1 pool, the team participated in three home meets, and one away meet which led some swimmers to Championships and All Stars. While the team did not win any of their meets with so few swimmers competing in the older age groups, the team still had quite a few swimmers make it to All Stars which requires a qualifying time. The All Star swimmers this year were Carter Brand, Anna Case, Gabe Chamberlain, Sarah Coffin, Matthew Givin, Halle Hamilton, Renee Hughes, Camden Lee, Garrison Niemann, Amanda Palyo, and Kristen Palyo.

Swimmers have fun taunting the other team with body art.

The current Storm board, led by President Lisa Kochevar, is busy putting together by-laws and is looking to expand its board with additional members by opening up more positions. Kochevar reflects on the season, “We couldn’t be more proud of our kids and the parent involvement. We have an enthusiastic, dedicated and dynamic group!” Next year Kochevar expects the team will be “kicking down doors and taking names.”

The Storm board would like to thank its generous sponsors who make the season happen, Dazbog, Castle Pines Orthodontics, Little Italy, Sylvan, K2 Lending, along with numerous other CPN businesses who gave discounts and gift cards.
