Junior varsity (JV) cheer at Rock Canyon High School (RCHS) has many reasons to celebrate. The team won UCA Regionals, Continental League, and JV State for Colorado. Last month in Orlando, they were double national finalists, placing in the top five for Large JV Co-ed and Large JV Game Day.

“This was our first year as a co-ed team and we started with only three returners,” explained head coach Connie Schubring. “This team truly worked hard and brought the magic.”

Connie and the other two cheer coaches, Lexi Roe and Loren Rylander, are not teachers at RCHS but are committed and passionate about the sport. JV practiced six to eight hours per week after school to prepare for the competitions.

Freshman Kate Anderson (14) reflected on the season.

“Going in, I had no experience with cheer but my coaches and teammates showed me how a real team works,” she said. “Before every competition, we would gather in a circle and someone would say, ’If you are not going to do it for yourself, do it for your team.’”

Congratulations to JV Cheer!
