Dear Mrs. A – December 2025
Dear Mrs. A,
Please share a friendly etiquette reminder for the upcoming holiday rush at the post office.
-Ms. Manners in Esperanza
Dear Ms. Manners,
We so fortunate to have the wonderful people who own and operate the post office branch in Castle Pines. I absolutely love going in there, and I am always happy about the service I get when I go.
One of my mantras for the post office is, “I don’t want to be first; I just want to be next.” Which means: I do not bully my way to the front of the line, and I wait patiently for my turn, even if it is a long line.
Do not forget to give the folks in line plenty of personal space, especially if they are handling large parcels. Resist the urge to be on the phone. Speaking loudly or on speakerphone is a big no-no.
When it is your turn, the number one thing that everyone agrees on is that you need to be ready before you get in line! Package and label everything at home or at the packing station in the post office. Tape boxes securely and write addresses legibly. Fill out customs forms or shipping labels before you reach the counter. Know what is inside your package—clerks must ask for safety reasons.
Be really kind to the postal clerks; they are handling record volumes and working long hours. A smile or kind word can go a long way, and if you have a regular mail carrier, a thank you card or small treat is a thoughtful gesture (no cash tips; small gifts under $20 are allowed by USPS policy).
Doing our best!
Big Love,
Mrs. A.
