303 Day – Buy Colorado Day
Colorado has had the area code 303 since telephone area codes were first established in 1947, and it has been a point of pride for Coloradoans seemingly ever since.
Accordingly, the third day of the third month has unofficially been “303 day” since at least 2009. March 3 is a day to celebrate everything Colorado—explore the outdoors, support local artists and businesses, and enjoy local music.
Last year, lawmakers made it official with Senate Joint Resolution 25-008, making March 3, 2025 “Buy Colorado Day.” The resolution acknowledged the state’s outdoor recreation industry, agriculture, restaurants, breweries (even going so far as to call Colorado the State of Craft Beer), and other businesses, and listed innovative Colorado brands including Celestial Seasonings, Chipotle, Coors, Crocs, Jolly Ranchers, OtterBox, Polar Bottle and PopSockets.
It noted a number of Colorado inventions—the cowboy hat, the snap-button western shirt, the Denver omelet, the Denver boot, outdoor Christmas lights, the root beer float and the cheeseburger—before officially urging residents to “spend their hard-earned dollars at local businesses that benefit us all.” Visit buycoloradoday.com for more information.

As history would have it, root beer floats, originally called Black Cows, were dreamt up in Colorado on August 19, 1893. Frank J. Wisner, owner of Cripple Creek Brewing, thought of ice cream floating in root beer while gazing at the moonlit snow cap on Cow Mountain.
