A community with compassion and heart

In February, Douglas County residents can transform generosity into real solutions by showing love to neighbors in need and participating in the Douglas Has Heart (DHH) campaign.

DHH is a program of the Douglas County Homeless Initiative (DCHI), which began in 2022 with the goal of compassionately addressing homelessness in Douglas County by partnering with municipalities, nonprofits, law enforcement agencies, faith leaders, mental health experts, the school district and individual residents. Working in partnership with the Douglas County Economic Development Corporation, Douglas County has expanded DHH to engage area businesses in raising money for the program.

Every dollar donated to DHH goes entirely to organizations providing essential services—such as food, shelter, emergency resources and case management—to those experiencing homelessness in our community.

To date, Douglas County residents have contributed more than $18,000 to local nonprofits, including HEART (Homeless Engagement, Assistance and Resource Team), Help & Hope Center, SECOR Cares and Parker Task Force.

“Our community’s generosity has no limits,” said Commissioner Abe Laydon, Chair of the DCHI. “We’re continuing to ask you to redirect your generosity to this campaign. Whether you’re an individual or a business, there are ways to help.”
