Active family finds their happy place

It was health and fitness that brought Joe and Treva Brown together when they met at a gym in Clearwater, Florida in 2000.
Raised in Columbus, Wisconsin, Joe earned a bachelor’s degree in exercise science from the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse and then moved to Florida to become a paramedic and firefighter after the attacks on September 11. Treva grew up in Huntington, West Virginia, attended Marshall University for a few years, then moved to Florida in 1995 to earn a state license in massage therapy.
From Florida, the couple landed back in Joe’s home state in 2005 to be around his family and start their own. After a few years, opportunity called, and Joe’s career took the young family to many different states. But on a business trip to Colorado, he was hooked. Joe loved the mountains, weather, trails and variety of outdoor activities, and after attending a Colorado Rockies game in 2011, he called Treva and said, “Grab the kids, we’re moving to Colorado.”
The following year, the Browns landed in the Serena neighborhood as their two oldest kids approached kindergarten. They did not know much about the area, but “found a screaming deal on a house in a cul-de-sac, which was important with having three young children,” said Joe. “Being surrounded by open space and trails was also important, as we love to be outside.”
Being active and outdoors is a common theme in the Brown family. Joe and Treva’s oldest son, Jack, graduated from Valor Christian High School in May and is a freshman and plays football at Colorado State University-Pueblo. Daughter Samantha is a senior at Valor, a National Honor Society student and has competed in several sports, including volleyball, tennis and track. The youngest of the Brown children, Elijah, is a freshman at Valor and plans to play football and lacrosse during high school. The Brown’s furry family member is a 10-year-old blue Great Dane called Kramer, named after former Green Bay Packers football player Jerry Kramer (Joe is an avid Packers fan).
Although Joe began his career as a firefighter, he made the tough decision in 2009 to leave the fire department and start his own construction-based temporary staffing company, Triad Inc. America. Now, more than 15 years later, his company has done work in 37 states and provided employment for more than 10,000 people. Treva was a licensed massage therapist for more than a decade, and while staying home with the kids, kept one foot in the health field, earning functional fitness and nutrition certifications. Today, she owns her own business, partnering with doctors as a health coach.
As a family, the Browns love to travel, attend concerts, go fishing, and cozy up on the couch with a good movie. Joe and Treva plan to celebrate their 50th birthdays this year in Costa Rica, which is a place they travel to often and has become their “happy place.”
The Browns other happy place is home. “If I could bottle the magic of this neighborhood, I would. Through the years, we’ve been blessed by countless helping hands, and we love returning the favor whenever we see a need,” said Treva. “We’re intentional about building strong connections and we’ve made lifelong friends in this community—one of the most rewarding parts of living here.”
