Ball Arena redevelopment plan in the works
A large portion of downtown Denver surrounding Ball Arena is in the first stages of redevelopment. Kroenke Sports & Entertainment, owner of the Denver Nuggets, Colorado Avalanche, Colorado Rapids, and Colorado Mammoth, has proposed to transform 55 acres of mostly parking lots into a mixed-use district including a performance venue, hotel, residential buildings and parks. The full transformation is predicted to take 30 years.
The first phase, an entertainment district, is expected to be complete in seven years, with groundbreaking likely to occur this year. A major feature of phase one is a pedestrian bridge called Wynkoop Crossing over Speer Boulevard.
