Breakfast and big thanks to our first responders

American Academy’s School Resource Office, Deputy Eric Rhymer, is honored by Sarah Thomasson and her second-grade class.
Students and staff at American Academy – Castle Pines came together on National First Responders Day (NFRD) to show their appreciation for local heroes from the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office and South Metro Fire Rescue. The school hosted a morning breakfast where first responders were treated to coffee, breakfast burritos and donuts, along with heartfelt messages of gratitude and thanks to those men and women who keep our neighborhoods safe.
In 2017, Congress designated October 28 as NFRD. The day recognizes the courage and dedication of those who rush to help in emergencies, often putting themselves in harm’s way to protect others. NFRD honors firefighters, law enforcement officers, emergency medical technicians (EMTs), paramedics, 911 dispatchers, search and rescue teams and others who serve in vital emergency response roles. NFRD also recognizes those of have died in the line of duty and the service and importance of supporting first responders’ mental health, safety and well-being.
