Making old paint new again

On May 3, the Castle Pines Chamber of Commerce held a paint recycling event, Recycle Paint in the Pines. The Chamber partnered with GreenSheen to collect the paint. Residents helped to keep 65,951 pounds of paint out of landfills. GreenSheen will combine, filter and process the recycled latex paint to make new paint in 18 different colors, which they will then sell at a fraction of the cost of regular paint.

For more information or to purchase recycled paint, visit greensheenpaint.com. GreenSheen paint is also sold in some Ace Hardware stores and Habitat for Humanity ReStores.

For those who missed the event, GreenSheen has a drop-off point in Denver, and they will pick up paint at your house if you have more than 10 gallons. Many paint retailers also accept unwanted paint—to find one near you, visit paintcare.org.

Volunteers from GreenSheen Paint stood by several boxes of the nearly 66,000 pounds of paint collected at the Castle Pines recycling event last month.
