Middle schoolers attend outdoor retreat

DCS Montessori students ready for activity at Stone Canyon Outdoor EdVentures.
Located just minutes away in Larkspur, Stone Canyon Outdoor EdVentures (SCOE) feels like a world apart. For the first time, DCS Montessori (DCSM) middle schoolers attended a fall retreat at SCOE, and the students said it was the spot to unplug, breathe in the mountain air, and spend a few days exploring the outdoors. All 70 DCSM middle-school students took part, and the school plans to make it an annual event.
The three-day retreat blended leadership activities, outdoor education, science and plenty of fun. Ziplining and archery topped the list of favorites, while evening campfires and cheers added to the excitement.
“Stone Canyon was a cool place to get away from the stresses of life. I loved the solitude and darkness. So many stars. It was awesome,” shared seventh-grader Lincoln Callahan.
Classmate Noah Obregon agreed, “It was a great experience. I would totally recommend it for kids who like adventure. Personally, my favorite part was the camp cheers or the zipline. I can’t wait to go again next year!”

Seventh-grade student Lincoln Callahan kept a steady hand and sharp focus at the archery range.
