Update on the Douglas County Heroes Hall

On May 21, Douglas County Commissioner George Teal and Heroes Hall Foundation leadership unveiled the new sign marking the location of the Heroes Hall Complex, a 14,000-square-foot building that, when complete, will house the Douglas County Veterans Service Office, the Douglas County Veterans Monument Foundation, The American Legion, and Veterans of Foreign Wars.

In April, the Board of Douglas County Commissioners approved the Heroes Hall (HH) lease agreement, allowing the Heroes Hall Foundation to continue moving forward with plans to raise funds and eventually construct the HH at the Douglas County Fairgrounds.

HH will be a central gathering space for veterans and their families for support, community engagement and a place to advocate for veteran causes.

“Douglas County has the highest per capita population of veterans in the state, and this facility is a statement of how much our community values these service men and women,” said Douglas County Commissioner George Teal, an Army veteran. “We heard the needs of our veterans, and with the help of my colleagues, took quick action to reserve this piece of land in the heart of the community for the Heroes Hall Foundation.” Planned features also include classrooms, reception areas and an outdoor patio.

Private donors, business leaders and the generosity of the community are needed to help raise the $15 million to complete the project. For more information or to get involved, visit heroeshallfoundation.org.
