Cheerful hub of art in Hidden Pointe

Chase Weaver (9) with his sister Claire (7) display their summer-inspired rocks in the Hidden Pointe rock garden. Inset: “Move ‘Em, Shake ‘Em, Please don’t take ‘em” invites visitors to enjoy the rocks while in the garden.

Since the Kindness Rocks Project went viral in the U.S. in 2015, painted rocks with inspiring messages or art on rocks have been popping up in unexpected places across the country. Called rock gardens, there are many spread throughout Douglas County.

A new one has been “growing” along the only walking trail in the Hidden Pointe neighborhood, the one that cuts across Crossing Circle.

Two years ago, Robin Weaver, husband Dan, and two kids, Chase (9) and Claire (7), started the rock garden as a fun activity, adding a newly-decorated rock each week to mark their latest summer adventures.

“I’m really proud of the rocks we have painted. My favorite is my palm tree rock,” said Claire.

Other neighbors have added to the garden, turning the small patch into a cheerful hub of art in the community. “It was exciting to wait and see if a new rock creation would show up,” said Robin.

The Weavers created a sign for their garden: “Hidden Pointe Rock Garden. Move ’Em. Shake ’Em. Please don’t take ‘em.” They take the extra step to preserve each new rock by painting with a protective sealant.

The Hidden Pointe rock garden has grown in its second season with themes from popular books, characters and adventures.
