Shining Horizons Cleaning Company is a local cleaning partner for Cleaning for a Reason. Owner/founder, Amber Sandau, offers two complimentary cleanings for cancer patients.
An estimated 1.9 million new cancer cases are diagnosed across the country each year, according to the American Cancer Society. For those who face this life-changing disease, their day-to-day focus shifts to treatment and care, leaving less time and money for everything else. A national nonprofit established in 2006, Cleaning for a Reason, provides house cleaning for cancer patients.
The company’s goal is to remove the burden of cleaning and allow those recovering from surgery, in active treatment, or in hospice to focus on health and spending valuable time with loved ones. To this end, Cleaning for a Reason partners with local cleaning companies.
Patients can search for a nearby company partner and apply for cleaning service online. Since inception, more than 60,000 patients have received donated cleanings from 1,400 company partners equaling more than $21 million dollars.
Shining Horizons Cleaning Company (SHCC) is a partner located in Highlands Ranch. “We’ve had patients tell us the cleaning gave them a sense of peace and control during a time when everything else felt uncertain,” shared Amber Sandau, owner and founder of SHCC, which serves Douglas, Arapahoe, Elbert and Jefferson Counties. “ Some have shared it was the first time in weeks or months they could truly relax in their own space; others have been brought to tears, simply because someone showed up for them when they needed it most,”
For Amber, being a part of Cleaning for a Reason is humbling. Every time she walks into a cancer patient’s home, it reminds her why she started her business: to truly make a difference in people’s lives. “Hearing their gratitude and seeing their relief reinforces my sense of purpose and compassion as a business owner and human being,” offered Amber.
Her company provides two complimentary home cleanings to cancer patients with whom they are matched. Cleanings last two to three hours and the two services are usually scheduled four weeks apart. After the two free visits, additional cleaning services can be scheduled at a discounted rate.
In addition to SHCC, Noble Cleaning of Colorado in Parker and Zippity Do Da Cleaning in Castle Rock are Douglas County-based Cleaning for a Reason partners.
