Giving circle donates to nonprofits

In May, members of 100 Women Who Care Douglas County (100WWCDC) gathered for an evening of networking, supporting good causes and to celebrate the organization’s second anniversary. At each quarterly meeting, this giving circle of women enjoys a sponsored dinner while learning about three, pre-vetted nonprofits from around the county. The women vote by secret ballot and each member donates $100.

Following a compelling nomination presentation by 100WWCDC member June Everett, the organization with the most votes was Pepper’s Senior Dog Sanctuary. “While we won’t know the total 100WWCDC group will donate to Pepper’s Senior Dog Sanctuary until we make their surprise big check presentation at the end of the month, based on prior quarter’s meetings, it will likely come in over $13,000!” stated Suzanne Wexler, 100WWCDC founder. Runners-up Be The Good Ones (see related article page 15) and The Backcountry Wilderness Area Fund will each receive $1,000.

100 Women Who Care has been around since 2006, has chapters across the country, and consists of women eager to give back to the community. Since 2023, 100WWCDC has grown to 170 ladies and has raised more than $112,000 in donations and secured $40,000 in matching grants.
