Avid shoppers know the place to go for a fix is the two-story market in Castle Rock: The Barn Antiques and Specialty Shops (The Barn), where a myriad of vendors sell everything from clothes and jewelry to home and seasonal goods. Paisley & Park (P&P) is a women’s clothing store, owned by mother-daughter team Cathy Anderson and Lauren Jezek. Found on the second floor in the southwest corner of The Barn, P&P’s tagline is “the sophistication of Park Avenue meets a laid-back California style.”

“We offer affordable fashion for the everyday girl,” explained Lauren, who mentioned that P&P has its own changing room. “Tops and denim are our best sellers.”

Cathy, who lives in the Glen Oaks neighborhood, and Lauren, who lives in Parker, have been in the fashion industry for two decades. In 2006, after teaching for 16 years, Cathy began selling high-end scarves (some with paisleys) imported from India. Meanwhile, Lauren began her college career in New York at the Fashion Institute of Technology and finished her degree at Colorado State University in fashion apparel and merchandising. In 2010, after Lauren completed an internship at Nordstrom, she said to her mom, “Hey, we could do something together.”

Cathy and Lauren began a business called Parabelle, selling clothes in markets and pop-ups as well as doing a wholesale business at the Denver Market. In 2011, they changed the name to P&P, the “paisley” as a nod to the pashmina scarves that Cathy used to sell and “Park” after Park Avenue in New York. In 2016, P&P became a storefront at the Denver Tech Center but when a rare opening at The Barn became available, the two moved the business to Castle Rock last February.

Cathy and Lauren split the duties. “We balance our strengths,” said Cathy. “I have nothing to do with the aesthetics or the buying; I am behind the scenes.”

Lauren does all the buying, the artistic side of styling the store and mannequins as well as maintaining the website and social media platforms. To keep shoppers coming, the inventory is rotated on a weekly basis.

When not at the store, Lauren and her husband can be found fixing up an older farmhouse on four acres, while Cathy enjoys her three grandchildren, ages 8, 6 and 17 months.

“Working with many small business and local owners from Castle Pines and Castle Rock, who put a lot of time into their businesses, is a joy of the job,” Cathy and Lauren concluded.
