New art in downtown Castle Rock

The Town of Castle Rock’s Public Art Commission (PAC) unveiled a vibrant new mural at Festival Park in downtown Castle Rock. This latest installation is part of PAC’s ongoing efforts to enhance the town’s character and beautify public spaces in ways that reflect local values and identity.
The restrooms at Festival Park, heavily used during regional events such as Boots and Brews and the weekly farmers market, were identified as prime spaces for artistic revitalization. Following a public call for submissions, the PAC received more than 50 proposals from artists across the region.
After a thorough jurying process, the PAC selected “Complete Raccoonery,” a playful and imaginative design by Colorado artist Holly Wasinger. The mural features a troop of raccoons ziplining and engaging in outdoor adventures—an homage to Castle Rock’s strong community appreciation for parks, trails and recreation.
“Public art is an opportunity to create delight in everyday places,” said Public Art Commission Chair Jen Perry. “With ‘Complete Raccoonery,’ we wanted to reflect the joy and liveliness of Festival Park while celebrating the outdoor culture that makes Castle Rock unique.”
An Aurora resident, Holly Wasinger is known for her colorful and engaging artwork and draws inspiration from wildlife and the natural world. Her work often incorporates playful elements designed to connect with viewers of all ages. The Castle Rock installation reflects both her artistic style and the town’s welcoming, family-friendly atmosphere.
The mural was installed onto the restroom facilities by local vendor Creative Inkferno, who translated the design into a large-scale piece that now serves as a cheerful landmark in the heart of downtown.
