Summer nostalgia

Summer is a chance to feel like a kid again. The long, hot days of August are our last chance at summer, before the bustle of September begins. Everyone has their own special summer memories, but here are a few ideas to maximize nostalgia, because why should the kids have all the fun?
If your bike has gone unused so far this summer, dust it off and take it for a spin around the neighborhood. Extra points if you put a playing card in the spokes. Toss a frisbee, swing a hula hoop, jump rope or revisit the slide and swings at a playground.
Pack a picnic with your favorite foods and head to a park. Have you visited all the nearby reservoirs and lakes to get that beach-like summer feeling?
Have popsicles, lemonade, watermelon and all the favorite summer foods that cool us off when it is hot. Whip up some homemade ice cream. Host a summer-themed dinner party on your deck.
When was the last time you ran through a sprinkler? Relive the joy of cooling off right in your own yard. Does a water balloon fight sound refreshing and fun? Play a round of badminton or volleyball in the backyard, or rock in a hammock and watch the clouds go by.
Pick up some sidewalk chalk and create colorful works of art in your driveway, either on your own or with friends or neighbors. Kids in the neighborhood may want to join you. Most people can’t resist hopscotch squares.
Go on a nature hunt and look for leaves, rocks, insects, flowers or other natural elements.
Get creative and make a tie-dye tee shirt, a friendship bracelet or any other craft.
Re-watch your favorite childhood movies and listen to music that evokes memories. Re-read some favorite childhood books. Spread out a blanket in the shade and take a nap.
Sit out by the fire pit in the evening and assemble s’mores. Take turns sharing what your favorite summer activities were when you were a kid.
Summertime may look different than it did when we were kids, and we may not have all the time to play we wish we did, but summer doesn’t have to lose its magic.
