Two decades of supporting youth

The Douglas County Youth Commissioners for the 2025-26 school year. Their charge is to gather youth opinions, suggestions and to advise Douglas County in youth-related matters.

On August 15, community members met at the Millhouse at Philip S. Miller Park in Castle Rock for an evening of fun, ice cream, games and celebration as they honored two decades of supporting youth in our community. The Douglas County Youth Initiative (DCYI) is a collaboration among Douglas County, Douglas County Schools, Douglas County Libraries, the City of Castle Pines, the City of Lone Tree, the Town of Castle Rock, the Town of Parker, and the Highlands Ranch Metro District.

Through programs such as the Outstanding Youth Awards, Youth Congress and WrapAround, the DCYI coordinates local youth-serving efforts and assesses the needs of the youngest residents by envisioning a community in which youth are involved, valued, productive and protected.

Through collaboration and action, the DCYI champions youth leadership and civic engagement; provides support for mental health, wellness, and education; and creates opportunities for teens to connect, grow, and get involved.
