Nonprofits pitch their cause to a TANK of sharks

On May 7, the South Metro Denver Chamber (Chamber) hosted “The TANK” at the Lone Tree Arts Center. Inspired by a popular reality television show, the event brought the business and nonprofit sectors of the community together by showcasing nonprofits selected by the Chamber.

Like the television show, the philanthropies had to pitch to a panel of four “sharks,” which included Sara Duke with K4CO Radio, Judd Robertson with Mighty Pine Heating & Air, Annie Snead with Ent Credit Union and Chris Tyrrell with Chris’ Garage Doors. Based on the presentations, the sharks each picked one to financially support: Adoption Options, The Right Step, Grace Counseling and Women’s Adventure Club. Each of the four philanthropies received $5,000 from the shark who chose them.

One variation from the television show was the audience could donate to all of the participating nonprofits during the evening, including the presenting nonprofits and exhibiting nonprofits: Make Mental Health Matter, Warrior Bonfire Program, Tall Tales Ranch and Bridge House.

The event emcee was Devin Patrick Hughes, artistic director and conductor of the Symphony of the Rockies. A portion of proceeds from the event benefited all of the participating nonprofits.
