Xcel Energy has ordered a new, 110-foot pole to replace the current 180-foot pole north of Coyote Ridge Park. Manufacture of the pole could take anywhere from four to six months, and installation of the pole should take place sometime this summer or fall. Removal of a 165-foot pole at the southwest side of the substation yard is also pending.

“Schedule of this removal has yet to be determined,” said Xcel Senior Agent, Anne MacRae.

At a community meeting in December, at which Castle Pines North (CPN) residents expressed their dissatisfaction with the new, towering poles, Xcel Engineer Danny Pearson informed residents that Douglas County will permit Xcel to install four new 180-foot poles in the same area behind the hill just north of Coyote Ridge.

Residents in attendance at the meeting were outraged at this announcement and demanded further discussion on the matter. Xcel agreed to hold off ordering the four new poles until they present photo simulations and host another community meeting. The four new poles Xcel plans to install north of Coyote Ridge are designed to be crossover lines to the Daniel’s Gate substation. As of press time, a community meeting with Xcel had been tentatively planned for April 10, at 7 p.m., at the CPN Community Center.

The City of CPN welcomes residents to join the Xcel Power Line Task Force. To sign up to volunteer, please e-mail contact by email. The Master Association will announce future meetings with Xcel via community e-mail.
