Fire Ban Issued for Douglas County

Douglas County has banned all open fires, including the sale and use of fireworks. The decision was based on current dry weather conditions, the threat of wildfires, and as a proactive approach to eliminate human-caused fire ignition sources.

“Maintaining the public’s safety is our ultimate goal and responsibility,” said Sheriff Michael Acree of the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office. The ordinance prohibits all open burning and open campfires, charcoal grills outside of developed residential areas, and wood burning stoves within buildings.

The restrictions are not intended to prohibit fires within liquid fueled or gas fueled stoves, fireplaces within buildings, charcoal grill fires within developed residential areas, and wood burning stoves within buildings. Violation of these fire restrictions is a Class-2 Petty Offense, punishable by up to a $600 fine and a $22 surcharge.
