Step into summer with new trails program

Information provided by the Town of Castle Rock

Residents know Castle Rock is a great place to call home.  Beautiful parks, well-planned trails, and abundant open space are just some of the wonderful things about the community.  Now, the Town of Castle Rock (Town) is inviting everyone to get outdoors this summer and explore these excellent features with the Summer Trails Exploration Program, or “STEP.”

Spend the summer exploring Castle Rock trails and be entered to win an outdoor-themed prize. The summer-long program kicked off with the American Hiking Society’s National Trails Day on Saturday, June 6.  The program will continue through Labor Day on Monday, September 7.

An online registration form and tracking log can be downloaded at CRgov.com/STEP.  Fill out the registration form to get a participation gift. Then, throughout the summer, residents can use the tracking log to keep a record of the number of participating trails they’ve visited.  Every trail hiked will equal one entry into the grand prize drawing at the end of the season.  Participants can earn up to 12 entries.  Completed logs should be submitted by September 7.

The 12 STEP trails include:

East Plum Creek Trail (ADA accessible)
Gateway Mesa Open Space
Hangman’s Gulch Trail (ADA)
Memmen Ridge Open Space
Mitchell Creek Canyon Trail
Mitchell Creek Trail (ADA)
Native Legend Open Space and Trail (ADA)
Philip S. Miller Park
Quarry Mesa
Ridgeline Open Space
Rock Park
Woodlands Bowl (ADA)

Additionally, a second prize drawing will be held for participants willing to submit photos while on the hike.  Take a photo at designated landmarks along the trails.  Participants are encouraged to get creative and have fun with the photos.  A complete list of landmarks can be found at CRgov.com/STEP.  Photos should be submitted via e-mail to STEP@CRgov.com. Submitted photos may be posted on the Town’s Facebook page (/CRgov) and Twitter (@CRgov), or participants can #CastleRock STEP.

All prizes will be awarded after September 7.  For more information, visit CRgov.com/trails.
