Teen curfew alert!

By Karissa Kelly

If you are wondering how late minors can stay out, or all you teenagers need a refresher, listen up so you can be informed of the curfew time.

Currently in the City of Castle Pines, the curfew for those under the age of eighteen is 11 p.m. on weekdays and 12 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays. (The curfew ends at 5 a.m. daily.)

However, the town of Castle Rock recently changed the curfew time to midnight for all days of the week, so that it is consistent with the curfew times in unincorporated Douglas County and other municipalities in the county. In other words, the curfew for Sunday through Thursday nights is changing from 11 p.m. to midnight. This curfew time change in Castle Rock will take effect on May 3.

According to the City of Castle Pines assistant city clerk, the city will be following this trend too. Curfew will change to midnight at some point in time; probably within the next couple of months, she said.

There are a few exceptions to the curfew: Minors accompanied by an adult older than 21; those engaged in interstate travel; and those traveling to work, school, religious or athletic activities.

Violations of the curfew are punishable by a fine of up to $300. So keep your eyes peeled and your ears open for when exactly the curfew time will change! For now teens, make sure you’re home safe and sound at 11 p.m. on weekdays and by 12 p.m. on Friday and Saturday nights.
