More than mall management

Josh Weber and his wife, Courtney, are happy to be back in their home state with their children Bowen (11) and Lucy (9).
Josh Weber describes his job as being in “commercial real estate.” Yet his succinct assessment does not begin to describe his work as the senior general manager for Park Meadows, Colorado’s largest mall, or his passion for what he does.
“It’s a big, complicated piece of real estate with a lot of different ownership entities, and ensuring synergy among them is part of my role,” Josh said. “I have a deep-seated affection for this property, and I care deeply about seeing it succeed. I care that every customer who comes in has a safe and enjoyable shopping experience.”
Josh’s duties include retailer relations, community outreach, managing contractors (security, landscaping, maintenance) and perhaps his favorite, customer engagement. He eats lunch daily in the mall’s food court and makes it a point to talk with customers about their shopping or dining experiences.
Park Meadows in Lone Tree boasts 1.6 million square feet of retail space and welcomes some 10 million visitors annually. It celebrated its 30th anniversary in August, giving Josh and his team a chance to look back, but also to consider the future.
“It’s been a pleasure to talk to people who recall attending the opening 30 years ago,” Josh said. “It’s been great to hear people’s positive stories about Park Meadows and how they’ve been shopping here for three decades.”
Yet Josh has his sights set firmly on the future. While not ready to reveal specific plans for Park Meadows, he said its visitors can expect new and exciting developments. “Our industry knows nothing can stay stagnant; there’s always going to be changes to stay relevant and ensure we’ll be around for the next 30 years and the 30 after that.”
One of Park Meadows’ newer retailers, women’s clothier Aritzia, values the Park Meadows brand and the working relationship with Josh and his team. “They have an open-door policy with us,” said Amanda Grieve, store manager. “If we don’t have a good relationship, we can’t have our normal daily operations go smoothly.”
Josh has an informed perspective on the industry. Although the 40-year-old may seem young, he has more than 20 years of experience in the field. The Colorado native started working overnight security at Southwest Plaza mall in Jefferson County. He advanced to security director while also earning his business degree from Colorado Christian University, where he later completed a masters degree. He transitioned from security to mall operations, eventually becoming operations manager.
Josh then became general manager of a mall in Augusta, Georgia. But Colorado beckoned Josh and his family—wife, Courtney, son Bowen (11) and daughter Lucy (9). Park Meadows parent company GGP hired Josh nearly a year ago and the Webers returned, moving to the Sterling Ranch community in Highlands Ranch.
In his spare time, Josh coaches Bowen’s little league team, golfs regularly and makes use of his private pilot’s license.
“My family loves the Douglas County community; we love where we live.”
