Rock Canyon High School’s new School of Business

By Elizabeth Wood West

Rock Canyon High School (RCHS) recently launched a new program for students interested in pursuing college majors in general business, marketing, management, finance, economics, accounting, and real estate upon graduation.

The RCHS School of Business is designed to introduce students to many areas within the world of business and provide hands-on training through teamwork, creative thinking, problem-solving, and technology. The program will also equip students with an understanding of professional business environments, employer expectations, and business ethics.

The RCHS School of Business program was started during the 2012-2013 school year. According to Janna Robinett, chairperson for the business and technology departments at RCHS, three more courses will be added for the 2013-2014 school year, and the final two courses will be added for the 2014-2015 school year.

Program courses include principles of business, business economics, principles of marketing, principles of management, principles of finance, and business strategies.

Robinett said, “Students who complete the program will receive twelve concurrent enrollment credits through Arapahoe Community College. Students can take select courses for stand-alone credit.”
