Seventh grade student schools in geography

Daniel Deschane’s love of maps helped him advance to the state Geography Bee.

Most of us probably don’t know where the Sundra Strait is or which two islands it separates, but Daniel Deschane, a seventh grade student at Rocky Heights Middle School (RHMS) knows that and much more!

Deschane was the winner of the RHMS Geography Bee and he earned a spot in the Colorado Geographic Bee to be held on April 5. Thousands of students from around Colorado compete to earn a spot at the state meet, but only one hundred students actually qualify. “When I learned I was going to state, I was very excited and I couldn’t wait to go!”, Deschane exclaimed.

Deschane enjoys looking at maps and feels that he learned so much about geography in that way. Deschane is active at RHMS and enjoys working on the yearbook staff and running on the cross-country team. Additionally he enjoys mountain biking and playing soccer.

Congratulations to Daniel Deschane, and good luck at the Colorado Geographic Bee!
