The Elevated Edit – September 2026

Oh, Dear Readers, have I got an opportunity for you!

I think you already know how much Mrs. A loves a party; well, let’s talk about getting together with our neighbors this month!

National Good Neighbor Day is September 28. An annual United States observance, it encourages people to connect with the people living around them. This can be accomplished through an introduction, sharing a meal, lending a hand or just checking in.

While it is not a federal holiday, it is a feel-good national day. President Jimmy Carter proclaimed it official in 1978, some 48 years ago!

And while a check in or an introduction might be nice, I encourage you to go all-in and bring out the neighborhood! Craft an invitation, something like, “Bring a dish and meet your street” or “Come as you are and bring what you have.” It’s a Monday night this year, so it could be an ideal time to gather––and the weather will be sure to be nice in September.

My favorite suggestion includes a long table for all (line them up end to end). Have your guests bring tables and chairs. Build them up along the sidewalk or clear a cul-de-sac. Provide the main dish (fried chicken is an inexpensive option, or burgers or hot dogs) and ask your guests to bring side dishes to share. Or rent out your local HOA clubhouse and host your neighbors there.

Be sure and let us know what you did and send your pictures to editor@castlepinesconnection.com.

BIG LOVE,
Mrs. A
