RCHS Dance Team wins state for the seventh time

The Rock Canyon High School (RCHS) varsity dance team won in the state competition for the second year in a row. This is the seventh state win for the program; RCHS dance holds the most state titles in sports at RCHS.

“This year’s varsity Dance Team is a dream team,” stated coach Christina Leone who has coached at RCHS for 16 years. “They are the kind of team that makes me never want to retire.”

The varsity, junior varsity and freshman teams have been training four to five times per week since last May. They perform at football, volleyball and basketball games as well as at other school events and assemblies.

“It was so amazing to win state for the second time! It was such a relief to know that all the hard work and time put into our routine was recognized,” stated junior Emmy Rosenmeyer (16).

The Colorado High School Activities Association hosts the three-day state championship every December.

Christina credits the success of the program to the RCHS community, the entire coaching staff and assistant coach and RCHS alum Paige Cassidy, who has coached for 11 years.

At the end of the month, the dance team will travel to the national competition in Orlando where the dancers will compete in three divisions: Pom, Jazz and Game-Day.

“The team is so motivated and focused on their goals, but more importantly they are the epitome of great teammates,” concluded Christina. “They simply bring out the best in each other and I am glad our season is not over yet!”
