Register soon for fun events and excursions

By Patte Smith

It is hard to believe that November is here, and soon we will be in full throttle with holiday fun and frenzy.  It is a festive time of year, and many enjoyable events are offered by the Castle Rock Senior Activity Center (CRSAC) and South Suburban Parks and Recreation District (SSPRD).

The CRSAC has a fleet of buses and mini-vans to transport individuals from the center to trips, restaurants and outings.  The center is located at 2323 Woodlands Boulevard, Castle Rock.  Visit castlerockseniorcenter.org to view and register for upcoming events.

South Suburban events fill up quickly, so visit ssprd.org to check availability and register for activities.  SSPRD has pick up locations for transportation to their featured events.  Lone Tree Recreation Center is their closest pick up point for those who live in the Castle Pines, Happy Canyon, Surrey Ridge and Castle Rock areas.  You will need your own transportation to get to the Lone Tree location.  Visit ssprd.org to see the Older Active Adults Fall/Winter catalog and to register for events.

Here are a few teasers offered in November and December by both SSPRD and CRSAC.  Be sure to check out both organizations’ websites for a complete list of holiday happenings and other interesting events.

A few of the CRSAC events include: November 20, “Thoroughly Modern Millie” at The Boulder Dinner Theater, a tour and lunch of the historic Brown Palace on December 2, and December 11 is “Christmas Story: The Musical” at Town Hall Arts Center.  Register by calling the senior center at 303-688-9498.

No registration is necessary for the CRSAC’s 24th Annual Craft Show on November 5 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Douglas County Events Center in Castle Rock – a great chance to get some holiday shopping done.  And, remember that the annual Starlighting in Castle Rock will be on November 19 from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m. in downtown Castle Rock.

SSPRD is offering red carpet treatment at the Outlets at Castle Rock on November 29, and there is still availability for a trip to the Georgetown Christmas Market on December 3, and tea and tour of the historic Castle Marne Bed & Breakfast in Denver on December 27.

Be sure to check the many other activities that are listed on both the Castle Rock Senior Activity Center and South Suburban Parks and Recreation websites.
