It was a 60 degree and overcast morning on Sunday, May 22, for the Tri the Rock Kid’s Triathlon at Butterfield Park in the Meadows. Three hundred and seventy six kids participated from ages five to 14, with varying coarse demands for each age group.

It was a great day of sport, fun, food, and prizes. There were complimentary goodie bags, food, drinks, t-shirts, and medals for all participants. Ten dollars from each entry fee went to the athlete’s school to support their physical education program.

The winning school got the honor of displaying the travelling trophy until next year’s Tri. In addition, the school with the most participants received a party for participating athletes at the Castle Rock Recreation Center’s leisure pool. By no surprise, Soaring Hawk Elementary in the Meadows won both accolades and for the sixth year in a row!

There were a lot of strong finishes at the Tri, including Sydney Lindquist, fifth grade resident of Kings Crossing who finished seventh out of 47 girls in the 11-12 year old category. “I love doing triathlons,” said Lindquist, “the best part of them is the run!”

Eleven year old, Claire Steffe, of HOA1 takes off on her 8 kilometer bike leg of Tri the Rock.

Nine and ten year olds, with the biggest showing at the Tri, making a strong finish at Butterfield Park.
