Life jacket safety for summer

Spending a day on the reservoir should be all about fun, sun and making great memories––and safety is a critical part of any water activity. Wearing a life jacket is the simplest, most effective way to protect yourself and the people you love.

Rueter-Hess Reservoir Ranger Supervisor Jason Trujillo reminds us that life jackets must be worn at all times on the reservoir. He emphasized that not all life jackets are the same, and choosing the right one matters. Life jackets come in different styles and sizes, and should be properly fitted and in good condition. They must also be U.S. Coast Guard-approved. If unsure about the correct size or type, a local park ranger can help you check fit, understand proper use, and make safe selections.

If you forget your life jacket, Surf’SUP Colorado, a Rueter-Hess Reservoir concession, can rent you one for the day.

Water safety starts with a properly-sized and fitting life jacket.
