BRE turns 30

Buffalo Ridge Elementary (BRE) celebrated a milestone recently—30 years educating kids in Castle Pines. The celebration was worked into recent events hosted by the Buffalo Ridge Education Alliance (BREA), the parent teacher association.

A school-wide party was held in conjunction with the annual fundraiser, the HERD Stampede Fun Run. The major festivities started with all students gathered on the turf field, wearing party hats and counting down from 30. Buffy, the school’s mascot, jumped out of a huge birthday present. Students enjoyed cupcakes and received a small goodie bag and cheered for their teachers and staff (including Principal Jen Murdock-Jacoway), who were dressed in inflatable costumes as an ostrich, shark, snowman, sumo wrestler, and dinosaur who then competed against one another in a spirited tug-of-war. Teachers also raced one another in a relay race.

In addition to the 30-year festivities, BREA announced other good news. Exceeding the $50,000 goal, the BRE community raised more than $65,000 for the school during the fundraiser which will support completion of BASECAMP, an outdoor classroom.

The BREA fundraising committee, including Kathryn Hansen, Linda Guiberson and Sarah Lux, collaborated with Jen starting in August to plan the events.

Jenna Johns (pictured above right), current BRE third grade teacher, was a second grade student at BRE when it opened in 1997. And Kat Archuletta (pictured above left) was a kindergartner when BRE opened, and now works in BASE.
