Still riding along together

Hidden Pointe neighbors Kim and Matt Gower met at an intersection, coming in opposite directions, each on a motorcycle. The rest, as they say, is history.
“At the time, I thought there were very few things sexier than a woman on her own bike,” laughed Matt, who is a Colorado native.
Growing up in southeast Denver, Matt was the youngest of five and graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School and then the University of Denver. In his teen years, Matt remembered driving to what is today’s Highlands Ranch and Castle Pines.
“We went to where Rock Canyon High School is today for our senior ditch day,” said Matt. “Going to Daniels Park was a country drive; it was hard to get to.”
Matt began his career in the hotel and restaurant industry and retired from Kraft in 2000. He has been an active real estate broker for the past 26 years. In true Colorado fashion, Matt was a snow skier, water skier and runner.
The oldest of three, Kim grew up in Des Moines and came to Colorado with her mother and siblings when she was 10. Kim received her associates degree from Arapahoe Community College and her bachelors degree in anthropology from Metro State University of Denver.
Matt and Kim married in a backyard wedding in Littleton in 1997.
“It was the perfect fall day,” shared Kim. “And that night, there was a snowstorm that hit with a vengeance.”
The Gowers moved to Wildcat Ridge and then to Castle Pines in 2005. They have three adult children, Erika, Keenan and Victoria, and are Gigi and Poppa to four grandchildren: Kennedy (14), KayLee (12), Freyja (5) and Tyr (3). “They are the loves of our life,” said Matt.
Kim is vested in her family history and genealogy. She is a member of the Colorado Archaeological Society, the Colorado Springs Archaeological Society, the Castle Rock Chapter of the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution (Kim is the historian), the Mayflower Society and the Castle Rock Historical Society. Her great aunt was hung during the Salem Witch Trials.
Matt is an avid golfer, volunteers for the United States Golf Association tournaments and walks at least 45 miles per week around the trails in Castle Pines. He still rides his motorcycles down State Highway 105 and Coal Creek Canyon.
The Gowers are devout Catholics, belong to Friends of the Garden of the Gods and are members at the Lone Tree Golf Club. They are Denver Broncos season ticket holders. “I’m a nut; there’s nothing we love more than rooting on the Broncos,” added Kim.
The couple recently returned from Greece and have a trip to Italy planned down the road.
“As we slide into our retirement years, we’ll be looking to split out time between Colorado and somewhere warm in the winter,” concluded Matt. “Travel will become a bigger part of the plan.”
