A childhood dream come true
Rock Canyon High School senior Savannah Morgan has a passion for musical theater. With her family cheering her on, she recently fulfilled a childhood dream by singing the national anthem at a Denver Broncos game. Morgan plans to study musical theater in college and hopes to build a career on stage.
A childhood dream came true for Savannah Morgan (17) as she sang the national anthem at Empower Field at Mile High when the Denver Broncos faced the Green Bay Packers in the preseason on August 21.
“I sang in front of 66,000 people. That’s insane,” Savannah said. “It was the coolest experience of my life.”
Savannah is a senior at Rock Canyon High School (RCHS). She lives in The Village at Castle Pines with her parents and twin 13-year-old brothers, who attend Rocky Heights Middle School. Sports have always been a big part of the Morgan family, especially football.
“I would watch football games and think to myself, I wish I could be that person on the platform in the middle of the field singing the national anthem,” Savannah said.
The opportunity came when Savannah’s dad heard the Broncos were looking for local vocalists. After submitting an audition tape, Savannah was chosen by reviewers at The Denver Center for the Performing Arts to perform at the game. “They selected me for Next Gen theme night, which I thought was perfect because I am hoping to be the next generation of performers,” Savannah added.
Savannah began singing at age 10 during the pandemic and joined a choir in sixth grade. At RCHS, she is active in choir and theater, where she serves as secretary and is currently performing in You Can’t Take It with You. “Music and theater are kind of my whole world,” said Savannah.
Outside of performing, Savannah enjoys traveling, watching football and cheering on her brothers at their football and lacrosse games. Next year, Savannah plans to attend college, where she hopes to double major in musical theater and psychology and ultimately make a career in performing musical theater.
Having already lived in seven states, Savannah is open to wherever her next adventure takes her. Of all the places she has lived, Colorado is her favorite. “The community is incredible. The people I have met are amazing,” she said. “I’ve learned more about singing and theater and all of the arts at Rock Canyon than I think I have my entire life.”
Savannah credits her choir directors, theater teachers, vocal teacher, friends and family for their support. “I’m incredibly thankful not only to the Broncos, but all the people who have helped me,” she said. “They inspire me. Without their support, I wouldn’t be where I am today.”
