Costco closer to Castle Rock opening
For residents accustomed to traveling north outside the community to shop at Costco, the wait for a closer location is getting shorter with construction and infrastructure improvements continuing in the Dawson Trails development on the west side of I-25 near Crystal Valley Parkway. The warehouse is approved, infrastructure is taking shape and, if the current schedule holds, Costco should begin vertical construction in the coming days/weeks.
Castle Rock Town Council approved the 160,000-square-foot Costco warehouse site development plan in 2024, and work has continued on the property and surrounding infrastructure. The store is currently expected to open in 2027, although an official grand-opening date has not yet been announced.
A key piece of the timeline is the new Crystal Valley interchange at I-25. Under the Dawson Trails development agreement, Costco cannot open to shoppers until the interchange is open to the public. Construction on the interchange began in 2024, and the project includes new entrance and exit ramps, the Crystal Valley Parkway bridge over I-25 and connections to the surrounding road network. Full completion is anticipated in 2027.
Costco will be a major commercial anchor for Dawson Trails, a mixed-use development planned for approximately 5,850 homes and 3.2 million square feet of commercial space.
“We’re very excited that, after several years of entitlements and development, the vision for Dawson Trails is coming to fruition,” said Lawrence Jacobson, a principal of the master developer, Westside Property Investment Company. “Our ability to work with Costco and bring them to Castle Rock as one of our commercial anchors has been an extraordinary experience, and we look forward to them opening and providing to the marketplace all of the benefits which they are known for.”
Dawson Trails will also welcome King Soopers, HCA HealthONE and a variety of other commercial users in the next couple of years. “As the Crystal Valley Interchange approaches completion and our onsite infrastructure comes online, Dawson Trails is poised to become one of the premier master planned communities in the Front Range,” concluded Jacobson.
