Prioritizing preventative care for dogs

When Christy Boswell decided to shift from her work with an HR consulting firm, she enlisted the help of a franchise broker to lead her toward a passion. Soon after learning about Scenthound, Christy knew it was the path for her.
Scenthound provides grooming and hygiene services for dogs but goes beyond the basic haircut.
“It’s a much different approach to grooming than the traditional industry,” said Christy, a native of St. Louis. “The reason we were drawn to it is because it has a much more preventative healthcare focus.”
Christy and her family moved from Toledo, Ohio, to Castle Pines in 2019. She and her husband Jim reside in the HOA2 neighborhood with their sons Jimmy (15), a sophomore at Rock Canyon High School, and Brooks (13), an eighth grader at Rocky Heights Middle School, and two goldendoodles.
“I think we were really lucky in the way we landed here,” Christy said. “The thing I love about Castle Pines is that you have a lot of different options for neighborhoods. Our neighborhood is so friendly.”
In 2021, Christy opened her first Scenthound in Centennial, which was the first location in Colorado. She soon opened another location in the same city, followed by locations in Parker and Littleton. In November, Christy will open a Scenthound in Denver. Two of her stores rank in the top 10 in the United States based on the number of dog visits.
Christy describes her role as hands on and strategic, overseeing the day-to-day operations. Wearing many different hats, she focuses on human resources, marketing, IT and repairs. Jim has a background in franchising and assists in running the business.
What sets Scenthound apart is the multi-point S.C.E.N.T. check. After every visit, dog owners receive detailed information on the skin, coat, ears, nails and teeth of their pets.
Christy notes that a dog’s S.C.E.N.T. score can be useful in identifying potentially problematic health issues, including cancer. “We’re not giving out medical advice, but we’re pointing people in the right direction when we see things that might be of concern,” she clarified.
When time allows, Christy enjoys hiking and visiting the mountains with her family. Although she works approximately 60 to 70 hours a week and is “always on,” she knows this was the right choice. “It’s much more rewarding than what I was doing in the consulting field,” she said.
