Business book club open for business in Castle Pines

by Anthonette Klinkerman

There is a book club for everyone, and now there is one for business people in Castle Pines. The Castle Pines Business Book Club is only two meetings old, but has already read two business-themed books and is starting on its third.

Douglas County Libraries determined a need for such a group through collaboration with the Castle Pines Chamber of Commerce. Librarian Amy Long stepped in to facilitate the meetings that take place in the chamber office at 11:30 a.m. on the first Thursday of the month.

“We read one popular or interesting business book a month chosen by the group and discuss how themes, ideas and research relates to our professional experiences, or how we could apply them to our work,” Long explained.

“Highlands Ranch has a business book club, so we worked off of that model,” she stated. The group meets over brown bag lunches and the meetings last for an hour to an hour and a half. “We have a great group of participants!”

Business people do not need to be intimidated as a blog with a synopsis of the reading is kept online for those who perhaps did not finish the book. Often links to related topics are included. The first book the group read was “Bright-Sided” by Barbara Ehrenreich, author of the economics class favorite, “Nickel and Dimed.” The April meeting covered the book “Grown Up Digital” by Don Tapscott.

The group is open to the public and simply requires registration by calling 303-791-7323 or through the Douglas County Library system website at www.dcl.org.
