Give tax support to Coloradans; check!

By Kathy Fallert

It’s that time again; tax season! For the twelfth consecutive year, a group of Colorado nonprofit organizations makes it as easy as ever to be eligible for voluntary checkoff donations from taxpayers through Checkoff Colorado.

More than $1.4 million was raised in 2013 with an average donation of only $11. This year 15 organizations are eligible for taxpayer contributions and are included on the 2013 Colorado 104 individual income tax form.

The money collected supports nonprofit groups that provide programs and services to communities throughout the state. The participating organizations this year include: Alzheimer’s  Association  Fund; Colorado Cancer Fund; Families in Action for Mental Health Fund; Goodwill Industries Fund; Make-A-Wish Foundation of Colorado; Military Family Relief Fund; Pet Overpopulation Fund; and the Unwanted Horse Fund.

“The great thing about checkoff giving is the ease in which people can donate to worthy Colorado charities,” said Jon Pushkin, spokesman for Checkoff Colorado.  “A $10 donation can make a huge impact, and every dollar donated stays in Colorado to support the critical services and programs these nonprofits provide.”

One example of these groups, The Military Family Relief Fund, assists Colorado military families impacted by mobilization since 9/11. Not only does the fund make up loss in salary, but also helps with living expenses when a family member leaves civilian employment.
