For the past twelve years, Castle Pines Village residents Fred and Jana Bartlit have celebrated their love for animals by hosting a fundraiser like no other! This year’s Lulu’s Barkin’ BBQ topped them all, raising more than $850,000 in a single night to directly benefit the Denver Dumb Friends League.

Every August, the Bartlits erect an enormous venue tent by their home in Castle Pines Village. They invite 550 guests to Lulu’s Barkin’ BBQ, which is a literal “who’s who” of Denver. The event includes a silent and live auction, an incredible Texas–style BBQ, and appearances from some of the Dumb Friends League dogs, cats and horses that are up for adoption.

“It’s truly humbling to see how much kindness and support came from our loyal Lulu’s Barkin’ BBQ attendees to help us with our mission of giving homeless pets and horses another chance,” said Bob Rohde, president and CEO of the Dumb Friends League. “All the money raised will help our facilities and programs give every animal that comes through our doors the care they deserve.”

Lulu’s Barkin’ BBQ wouldn’t be complete without an all-star entertainer to round things out. Past years’ entertainers have included Joe Cocker, Chris Isaak, Cyndi Lauper, Kacey Musgraves, Lionel Richie and Dwight Yoakam. This year the Bartlits welcomed Sheryl Crow to perform a private concert for the sold-out crowd.

In a single night, Lulu’s Barkin’ BBQ not only raised $850,000 but it also adopted out thirteen dogs and cats that guests had the opportunity to adopt on the spot. Next year the Bartlits hope to outdo themselves by reaching $1 million raised for the animals they love.

Drew from Highlands Ranch got to know Beebee, an adorable terrier mix from the Denver Dumb Friends League. Beebee, and all of the other invited pets, were up for adoption and available to go home from the party with new owners.

The Lulu Mobile was on hand for guests to tour during the party. This state-of the-art mobile veterinary unit was purchased by the Bartlits to bring much needed veterinary care to less fortunate communities around Colorado.

Lulu’s BBQ guests were treated to a fine dining BBQ, complete with a private concert by Sheryl Crow.
