Nobles was named CU Club Sports Female Athlete of the Year just prior to her graduation last spring.

Mattie Nobles, former resident of Esperanza, and current resident of Boulder lived in Castle Pines for the first 18 years of her life. She attended Rock Canyon High School (RCHS), where she was a varsity soccer player and swimmer for four years, and was a member of the first RCHS swimming and diving team to take the State Championship.

After graduating from RCHS in 2009, Nobles moved on to attend CU Boulder, where she graduated this past spring with honors and distinction in the field of journalism by making the Dean’s List for all eight consecutive semesters and maintaining a cumulative GPA of 3.85. In addition, she competed with the CU Swimming and Diving Team in Atlanta at the National Championships from which she brought home several medals. Nobles was awarded the prestigious CU Club Sports Female Athlete of the Year prior to graduation.

As part of her award introduction, the following was said about Nobles, “The year’s Female Athlete of the Year selection will come as no surprise to those who know her. This senior served as captain her junior year and helped lead her team to three consecutive national championships in her time, during the most recent of which she was the third highest scoring overall competitor. During her career, she’s claimed six all-team Top 5 performances, the team record in the 400 Individual Medley and the national record in the same event with an incredible time of 4:45.06.”

Nobles said of this experience, “Winning this award was a huge surprise and honor. I know I work really hard, but I see it as a necessity in order to achieve the goals I set. Working hard is normal for me so getting such a high praise and honor for it was just … amazing.” Nobles’ mom, Mary Beth Schomas remarked, “All of Mattie’s hard work and determination really paid off in all aspects of her college career!”

Graduating with honors was achieved by Nobles’ GPA as well as completing an additional project. Her project consisted of a branding campaign and advertising platform as well as a thesis paper about the impact social media has on the advertising world.

Nobles is now working for Made Movement, a start-up advertising agency that focuses on American-made products. While Nobles hopes that in the future she will do advertising work for Nike, she says, “I am eager and passionate about the work that I do. I look forward to getting into work and making incredible things happen!”

Nobles competed with the CU Swimming and Diving Team at the National Championships where she was awarded several medals and also broke her own record.
