The ninth annual Regis Jesuit (RJ) Fall Classic Golf Tournament was held on September 11 at the beautiful Sanctuary Golf Course in Castle Pines. The rainy day and gloomy skies didn’t keep the participants from enjoying a day of golf, camaraderie and charity.

Each year the Fall Classic is held in order to raise funds for the RJ tuition assistance program. Generous donors and community leaders participate in the tournament, which this year drew 120 golfers. The shotgun-style tournament lasted much of the day and was followed by a dinner, silent and live auction, and testimonials from current RJ students.

In 2012, more than $2.3 million in aid was awarded to over 350 students, resulting in 22 percent of the student population receiving tuition assistance. Mary Zimmerman, who works in the RJ advancement office remarked, “Tuition assistance is such an important part of the Jesuit tradition of providing for diversity in our schools. So many lives are significantly impacted through this assistance.” RJ draws students from more than 130 elementary schools throughout the Denver Metro area, and many of these students simply could not afford the education without assistance.

RJ’s goal of awarding $2.6 million in aid in 2013 is well under way as a result of the money raised from the Fall Classic.
