Rock Canyon JV cheer wins state … again

Rock Canyon High School’s junior varsity cheerleaders are all smiles. In December, they won the statewide contest in the Co-ed routine for the second year in a row.

For the second year in a row, Rock Canyon High School’s (RCHS) junior varsity (JV) cheerleaders won the statewide contest in the co-ed routine. The competition, called the State Spirit Challenge, is hosted by Flip and Shout Competitions and is held every December at the Denver Coliseum.

“RCHS JV cheer has amazing strength and they are truly unstoppable,” stated coach Connie Schubring. “It is difficult to have two good routines in one day but this team had the most amazing second routine in the finals!”

Since June, the team trained almost every day, including morning and late-night practices.

“I am so proud of how everyone has pushed through, even with the challenging moments, to make it happen,” stated co-captain Anthony Canino (17) who lives in The Canyons neighborhood.

“We are now ready to upgrade the routine to make it as challenging and competitive as possible to showcase our talent at nationals,” Anthony continued.

The national cheer competition is in Orlando next month. In 2024, RCHS JV cheer were double national finalists, placing in the top five for Large JV Co-ed and Large JV Game Day. For more information, visit flipandshout.com.
