Attempted Burglary in Oak Hills Community

by Lane Roberts

On Tuesday, October 14, there was an attempted burglary on Oak Hills Dr., in the Oak Hills neighborhood near the Surrey Ridge community. According to the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office (DCSO) there were two separate vehicles stolen and four male suspects involved.

The DCSO was called to West Oak Hills Dr at 2:38 a.m. on a burglary in progress. According to the DCSO, a person reported they heard dogs barking, looked outside and saw one suspect on their porch and another in their driveway. When the homeowner went outside, one suspect ran down the street towards another vehicle, and three suspects got in the vehicle and drove away.

According to the DCSO, during the same time another deputy spotted an open garage door at the 300 block of Oak Hills Lane. The homeowner advised the DCSO that the garage door was closed. The homeowner then discovered that the vehicle parked in the driveway had been entered and the garage door opener was missing.

While searching the area, the DCSO then spotted a dark colored SUV occupied by four males, approximately 18 years of age. The patrol deputy attempted to stop the vehicle; however, the vehicle would not stop and crashed in the 500 block of Oak Hills Lane. All four male suspects ran from the vehicle.

Around 3:30 a.m., DCSO deputies pursued the four suspects and also used K9 assistance. The Castle Rock Police Department also assisted with the search and Colorado State Patrol watched the interstate for any suspects. The DCSO reported that officers searched the area until around 6:30 a.m., but no suspects were taken into custody.

According to the DCSO, this is an open investigation and Sheriff Dave Weaver encourages citizens that when securing vehicles parked in driveways or on the street, make sure to remember to remove all valuables and even the garage door opener.

Also, please call the DCSO Dispatch Center at 303-660-7500 to report any suspicious activity.
